Chicken coop
We have decided to finally build our own chicken coop and get some laying hens. We have had chickens before but they haven't been kept at our home. We have many recycled materials to use which helped keep our cost minimal.
We had some pre assembled wall pieces that we screwed together and placed on cinder blocks as our base for the co-op.
We constructed the walls on the ground then lifted them into place. We went with a lean-to style to help with snow in the winter.
On the south side of the coop we built in 3 large windows for plenty of sun light all year round.
The 2×4's and screws are the only materials we had to buy.
We had started this project late in the fall only got the metal roof on right before the snow fell for the winter.
Yay spring!! So excited to finally finish our chicken coop. We decided to and a side window we had found so we could see into the coop from our driveway. As we also have a business at our home and customers love to look in at the chickens when they are not out in the yard.
Sticking with a rustic feel and free siding boards, I wanted something cute to see when I go out to feed the girls.
Before we put the siding around the windows we decided to paint to avoid any spills, that always seem to happen when painting.
Yay, happy chicks!
Fun colored tires for dusting boxes. Also a very nice ramp my son helped build.
A few decorations and a classic door, this coop is coming along nicely.
On the opposite side from the door we left a side partially unsided. This will be where we will be building on a rabbit hutch in the future.
We also started some turkey chicks with the chickens before moving them out to a different pen.

I love these books.
Sleeping Bear Press has some wonderful books.Every state has an alphabet book, there are also number books and books about different places. There are books by age also. I found out about them when we lived in Montana, a daycare I worked for had one that the kids just loved to read. After I had my son, we got him the Montana 'B is for Big Sky' book for a book about where he was born. After moving back to Washington we also got the Washington state book 'E is for Evergreen', and after an exciting trip to the Seattle aquarium we also got the 'W is for Wave' book. Now we are working on getting some more of the other ones they have, when we go on special trips to different states or places like the beach and zoo. http://sleepingbearpress.com/

Fast corn bread chilli bake
I thought that I would share this. My family loves it and for me, not being a chilli and corn bread girl, I love it too.
This is super easy and fast.
I take 1 box of Jiffy corn muffin mix and bake it in a 9x9 pan. If you like a thicker bottom you can use 2 boxes.
When it comes out of the oven, open the can of chilli and spread it out on top.
Then take some cheese and shred it onto of the chilli.
Put it back in the oven until the cheese is all melted.
Yummy, I hope you like.

the weekender
Wow, I have always been one to try and accomplish things on my days off work or now my husbands days off work, but it is amazing how many projects need to be done. We have now reached a point in our life where the weekend trips and get aways that we did before kids, where we would just get in the car a drive to the beach for just a day or a spur of the moment camping night out, are not longer. One: the babies don't like to spend the day in the car for just a couple hours of running around just to get back in the car and go home, two: gas is ridiculous, and three: there is just too many thing we need to get done around the house! So now, it is the weekend projects. In the winter months it is paint the laundry room or fix the bathroom, new floor in the bed room, remodel the living room or fix the kitchen lights and cabinets. These summer months it has been plant grass in the back yard-check, weed the flower beds-check, build the garden planter-in progress, put up a fence in the back yard-in progress, build kids sand box-next in line, burn brush piles-also next in line, and so on....... On average, four out of five weekends are spent at the house working on projects with a weekend here or there to just get the kids out away from the house for something different for them, with a train ride for my sons bday or a parade and treats, or a trip to the mountains to run around with the dogs. Time seems to go by so much faster when you have kids one day you are holding them in your lap and the next they are running around the yard, playing in mud puddles or starting to talk. Wow

stay at home mom!!!?
I love being a stay at home mom. Yes my kids are true kids that are not on their best behavior 24/7, but for the most part our days are good. There are times when I feel like a slave to my life, yes I have my chores that are the everyday and some extras other days. But when I only ask a few things of my family to help out around the house I would like them to do those things in a timely manner. When they procrastinate it makes me very upset that they cannot respect me enough to do the things I ask. I felt very guilty at first asking them to do so, but then I realized that I may not be the one making the money, but I do take care of 2 kids and clean and cook and I do need help. I know a lot of super moms and single moms that can do it all. Right on to you! I just don't like felling trampled on.

talking to eath other
I am very lucky to have such great neighbors. It may seem very strange to some people but I do not even have my neighbors phone number. We simply talk to each other over the fence or we knock on the door. We talk face to face, no phone, computer ect... As a whole our society has become so dependent on electronics that we no longer have any personal contact with each other. Even our grocery stores have self check out lines, this only seems to alienate us from other people and it takes jobs away. I don't even like my local grocery store anymore, for the fact that it has become more corporate "get the job done" than it used to be community orientated. Even some of my family perfers to text message then to just call and talk no matter how long or short it may be.
